Personal Trainers Leverage Their Time For More Freedom
Time management is something all business professionals deal with. As a personal trainer with a business, you also have to plan around the busy days of your clients. Though most people have some idea how to plan their day, very few really utilize the power of leveraging time.
Lists are often the way people work. Some are required to do so. 7 a.m. client, 8 a.m. meeting, 9 a.m. client, 9:30 client, 10:15 client, and on the list goes. Back at the homestead there are other lists waiting.
That’s a schedule. However, you can work smarter than that.
Leveraging means balancing. Keeping a good balance of your own time is key.
It’s hard to create more balance if you don’t know where you are in the first place. It’s important to evaluate your current situation before you can do anything about it.
Keep a journal for a few days to a week. At the end of the time period, look to see how much time you spent with family.
-
Did you spend time doing a hobby or something else you really enjoyed?
-
What kind of books or magazines did you read?
-
How much exercise were you able to do?
-
Did you read anything during the trial period?
-
If yes, were you in it for work or just for the fun of it?
-
How much time did you allow to work toward a personal goal?
If you are a traditional follower of a “to do” list, you will probably find several areas lacking when evaluating your trial period. Do the math on where you spent your time and on what. How much time did you spend for career, family, personal health, reading and other interests? Make yourself a little chart showing the percentage of each area of life and how much time you spent on it. How much time did you allot for career compared to family and other important aspects? This might be a real eye opener!
This little journaling project gives you a chance to look at how you live your life and then choose how to change. Figure out what kind of time you want to devote to each aspect of your life.
When you leverage your time and deliberately choose how to spend it, you’re no longer a slave to the lists! The “to do” list is an important way to track chores, but life should be more than a chore.
